Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Community Centres, the Recreation Lead is responsible for the oversight and delivery of assigned recreation programs and services, day-to-day program operations, as well as the development and improvement of operational processes including and not limited to the areas of aquatics, general programs and camps within the designated community centre area and/or assigned citywide portfolio.Monitors staff performance and provides ongoing coaching, addresses and takes action on staff performance issues, including directly administering or assisting with disciplinary measures. Ensures divisional and corporate service standards as well as health and safety procedures are followed and maintained in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations, AODA and Employment Standards Act. Public Pool Regulations and related legislation.
• Four (4) year University Degree in Business or Public Administration, Recreation and Leisure, or suitable equivalent degree or related experience.• High five trainer or Aquatic Leadership Qualifications such as National Lifeguard Instructor or Instructor Trainer Certification considered an asset.• Minimum of four (4) years related experience preferably in a municipal and/or recreational environment and at least one (1) year supervising part-time seasonal staff.• High energy team player capable of multi-tasking and coordinating several significant portfolio initiatives successfully.• Proven ability to work independently on a wide range of duties and job functions.• Proven ability to work in a high paced and stressful environment.• Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, staff development skills; demonstrated budget management skills.• Demonstrated experience in organizing and leading meetings, including preparation of agendas, minutes, documentation and circulation of minutes with attention to detail and accuracy.• Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, etc.),• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written including drafting correspondence, presentations, media and reports. Demonstrated ability to research and gather information.• Effective time management, organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to set priorities and meet required deadlines with conflicting demands and changing priorities coupled with problem solving and analytical skills.• Ability to deal effectively and courteously with internal staff, consultants, the public and other government agencies.• A valid Ontario ‘G’ driver’s license, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City's core and leadership competencies as well as relevant departmental functional competencies.• The successful candidate will be required to provide a current, clear Vulnerable Sector Check from an accredited Police Service prior to employment.
